An analysis of changes in parity progression ratios in Korea

Abstract
From the data of 1960 and 1975 national census parity progression ratios and mean numbers of completed live birth by age groups were calculated for each year respectively.
As the 1960 census was undertaken before the Korean national family planning programme was introduced, comparison of parity progression ratios or the mean numbers between the fifteen-year intercensal period, or thirteen-year period of family planning programme, was to see changes in levels of the ratios or the mean numbers.
The ratios obtained from the 1975 census were much lower than the levels of corresponding ratios obtained from 1960 census. The mean numbers also showed there have been sharp decreases in each age group between the two intercensal period.
